Community Science & Stewardship

• May 21st 5-7pm - Stewardship Party at Forest Sanctuary - Kingston Land Trust & Hudson Valley Bee Habitat are teaming up for World Bee Day! Volunteers needed to help tend the garden plots that feed our bees, butterflies, birds, and even bats. Come prepared to do some mulching, "weeding," and sprucing up of the pollinator sanctuary on the Gross Street side of the Forest Sanctuary. RSVP tom@kingstonlandtrust.org
• Have you ever been interested in deer hunting for the future of our forests or food security reasons, but felt intimidated about getting started? Check out Forest Defense!
• June 8th-10th - Defining Urban Biodiversity Field Surveys - Join scientists in observing and documenting plants and wildlife to contribute to the growing database of biodiversity around Kingston, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie. Everyone is welcome, no experience needed.

Garden Goodness

• June 2nd 6-7:30pm - Herbal Ally Gathering - Connect with medicinal plants you can access whenever you'd like, all growing at the Rondout Community Gardens! Monthly on first Tuesdays Jordann offers this free, immersive herbalism class to the community. Rondout.herbs@proton.me for questions.
• Join GARDEN PARTY, a Catskills-based club for those who see planting & growing as vital tools for seeding collective abundance. They host skill-shares, grow-and-tells, work parties, and other plant-centric gatherings at members’ home gardens across the region (maybe yours?!). Members will learn, grow, build, share, and party—all in the garden.
• Plant a Native Tree - The Kingston Library has free bare root saplings! If you missed the Earth Day giveaways, there are more trees where that came from, and they need homes (in the dirt) now! Pick up yours before they close for the holiday weekend.
  

Arts & Culture

• Through June - Blooms at Camp Kingston - If you didn't make it to the opening last weekend, stop by the newest Holding Space art show in the back room of Camp Kingston -- now an art garden is overflowing with florals ✿❀✿❀✿
• June 13th - Game of Shrooms! - Now in its 7th year, Game of Shrooms is a once a year world-wide art-N-seek event. You can create fungi-focused artworks to hide, you can seek out free art hidden around, or both!

KCSD School Board elections are TOMORROW, Tuesday, 5/19. Find your poling place! I'm voting for Erika & Louisa because their aims are to shift the culture of how the district operates and deliver much-needed transparency & communication with the community, and to meet the needs of all students including BIPOC, queer/trans, immigrant children as well as children with disabilities.

While we're not bringing back Camp Chicory in the near future, Amanda Marlow's new camp is sure to be everything we dream of for neighborhood nature-based summer fun!
